A CLUB ethos is being developed at Thirroul Rugby League Club, with members of the Butchers' first grade team taking over the coaching duties of the under 15 and under 16 teams in 2008.

The Butchers are looking to install a system that will encourage their older junior teams to play in the same style as their under 18, second grade and first grade teams.

The northern suburbs club is hopeful it will make the transition to senior footy a lot smoother for players and lead to more juniors staying involved in football.

Captain Ryan Powell and first grade five-eighth Aaron Beath are coaching the under 15 team, while club stalwart Mark Taylor has taken charge of the under 16s.

"For the past couple of years our under 18 team has been off the pace, so the junior and senior clubs have got together to try and make the transition from juniors into first grade easier," Beath said.

"We are working on skills with the boys and we have the makings of a good side in the under 15s. We are a bit short of numbers, we only have 15 (players in the under 15s), but the boys are taking to the style well, which we want to get running through the whole club.

"The thing is, we want to be a strong club in juniors and seniors."
